Non-Formal Education

In 2005 Peace Corps/Burkina Faso introduced a girls’ education and empowerment project. This project is now being revamped as the non-formal sub-sector of a greater Education sector. The Government of Burkina Faso’s national theme is: “If you educate girls and boys, you develop a nation.” To this end, volunteers work with schools and communities in a variety of ways to promote formal and non-formal education for girls and boys. They help communities understand the importance of education and work to develop and implement strategies to increase students’ success in school. This may include tutoring clubs and programs, girls clubs, training in life skills, mentoring activities, etc.
