A : « La Campagne Burkina Verte » is the translation of Campaign for a Green Burkina Faso. It is a fundraiser run by the committee of the same name in order to support volunteers who will be planting trees at their sites. The goal is to fund tree plantings not only for volunteers at their sites, but to also raise funds for the Food Security Committee of Peace Corps Burkina Faso.
A: If you wish to make a tax-deductible (that’s right, tax deductible) donation to La Campagne Burkina Verte, simply click on the picture to the left that says “donate.” This will bring you to the Burkina Faso fundraiser page on the Peace Corps website. Then, you can submit your donation to the Burkina Faso country fund, but please earmark your donation with “La Campagne Burkina Verte” or “Campaign for a Green Burkina Faso.”
A: We are asking friends, families, and total strangers back home in the United States to donate to our cause. All 100% tax-deductible donations will be through the Peace Corps Country Fund and will go directly to funding volunteer projects focused on planting trees or promoting food security throughout Burkina Faso. And in Burkina Faso-one of the poorest countries in the world-even a small donation can go a long way!
A: While each volunteer is required to plant a specific amount of trees, certain volunteers have expressed interest in streamlining this process through our campaign in order to both reforest Burkina, but also inform their communities about Peace Corps and how the planting of trees represents Peace Corps’ missions (see previous posts for the specifics). These volunteers have done rigorous needs assessments of their villages to find out if the community would prefer gardens at schools, mango orchards, or simply providing saplings to individual courtyards in the community. It is relatively easy to put a sapling into the ground, but it is a greater challenge to assure its survival. Therefore, the funds that we raise, depending on the wishes of the community, will go to making sure each tree planted will survive and thrive, providing support for each community.

Peace Corps Burkina Faso has pledged to plant 1,000,000 trees, AND ensure their survival, by the year 2016. New Education volunteers will plant 625 trees/year and DABA (Developing Agriculture and Business Activities) volunteers will plant 5,000 trees/year in order to reach this goal. In order to streamline and aid these volunteers in this process, volunteers have stepped up and created a tree-planting committee, called La Campagne Burkina Verte (Campaign for a Green Burkina Faso).
